there was a 3.8L V6, but no 4.2..the 4.2 was a V8, not a V6...and it was only offered from 80-82, i believe.

hes a moron.

In my humble opinion, one of the best Ford engines, best engines of any engine, was the 300 straight six, 4.9 liter .

It wasn't the most powerful or get the best gas mileage, but it had extreme low end torque and was bullet proof. I had a friend that had one in a '92 F-150, he let his girlfriend use it. She went 12,000 miles with no oil change. Didn't bother it at all. Also had a buddy of mine I used to work with, had a '96 F-150 and he towed a 13,000+ lb trailer with it, big bulldozer. Granted he was only going 15 - 20 mph, but the diesel was brke down, so the straight 6 got the job done. All the newer v8 trucks of today serioulsy wouldn't be able to drag it 5mph little alone several miles.

That was always a well built impressive engine.

well said, I must agree with every word. I just did a valve cover gasket in a 4.9 that had 289K on it in a very well beaten 95 F-150. The motor runs like a top, the oil pan gasket and pump (at the same time for obvious reasons) has been done but that was about it so far, and nothing as far as valves or internals go. Want to see a million mile straight six Ford, check this out :

I just checked the site for the first time in like 4 months. I read before that it was a 4.9, and could only assume that anyway. The amazing part is the tranny, read that. I actually heard the same thing from a lot of people. Once over 100K never replace the filter or gasket unless it leaks. Just make sure the cooler is good, and keep the temp down they will run forever. I'm also assuming the van is an auto, because even the best standard drivers aren't going 1,000,000 miles without doing a clutch.

i got 4 F150 with the inline 6 too its got 211k on it and the only thing ive changed on it is the alternator, starter i think, clutch twice, oil every 3k, flushed to rad. a couple of times, and new spark plugs a couple times and it still runs like a champ!!! they are awesome engines!

today he told me that it is an 81 and it has the 6-piece headlights like the later models, not the 4 headlights which i thought were on there. right now i dont have an engine in my car, so the front sits higherbecause the springs arent compressed, he says his sits just like that, with the front higher.

i like this guy.

Mad props to the mighty 4.9 6, I've had three over the years and they were amazing.

BUT this van with 1,000,000 is a 5.4! Who would have thought!
