Many of the rumors (for what theyre worth) are leaning towards the 5.0L with 400hp, but ive also heard 4.6 3V for 2010 with 350hp, and a bigger engine coming after the refresh is shown off a bit. the 400hp rumor would leave a nice gap between the GT and the GT500, and would make it more competitive with the camaro and challenger. if dodge still exists when we get to that point, the challenger r/t is at 370-375hp now, and the same engine in the ram makes 390....needless to say, that extra hp from the ram shouldnt be too hard to locate in the challenger...and even though its heavier than the mustang, i think that ford should REALLY look to hit that 400hp mark with the GT...

I think the eco-boost should be used for the "mid-level" model. But serously, if the block is already ready for FI then this mid-level engine will be able to put up some serious horsepower. More than the GT model I would think. Turbo all the way!

Also, don't quote me on this but by 2012 all production cars must have 32 mpg highway. So why not just put the TT on the GT, get good fuel economy and call it a day. The performance will still be there... Both situations would be good.

just a thought

It's too much for Ford to do all 3, I'd say dump the V6, but preferably don't call this ecoboost mustang an SVO. However, I've always thought the Mustang V6 should have a surname like the GT, so maybe the SVO or something similar would be good to add. I guess you could say it's like the Camaro having the LS and the SS.

I like the turbo'd v6 option, as long as the mpg (35+) made it worth it to have one. ford has got to keep the v8 in the line up though, especially to compete with the challenger and camaro.

if youre referring to CAFE laws, they actually exist now, and have existed since the 1970s...but there are many ways to get around them, and there are a ton of loopholes in the laws. Since they were enacted, an american or asian company has never paid a fine, even though many of the vehicles in this country dont fit within the CAFE rules...however, european companies have paid almost 600 million in fines.

cafe is just a revision to an old law, and its been blown WAY out of proportion with how it will impact the market.

Yes but ecoboost is not cheap so you would be talking about a base Mustang costing over 25K most likely. The base motor needs to be the n/a version of the Duratec 37 motor which is in the Flex, Mazda CX-9, Mazda 6, MKS, MKX, etc. It makes roughly 270 hp.
