1) I didn't defend the Shelby. I don't particularly like them, actually. I was just pointing out how much of a value they are in comparison to the Roush P-51 and other top offerings from them and Saleen.

2) Of course the GT500 is a step above the GT. But you seemed to use that in a demeaning fashion. If you didn't, I digress.

3) I thought you were speaking about Mustang's in general. But I have driven a New Edge Roush, and having driven the snot out of a few S197's now, I highly doubt their parts for them transform them enough to sway my opinion.

4) I straight up appologize in this aspect, as I (mis)read you having a 150rwhp car. That's why I said that. If you're making healthy power numbers to complement your suspension mods, then I could def see you beating GT500's on the track.

5) You're again assuming that I like the GT500. I don't particularly. Like I said already, I was just using it to make a point. For the price of P-51, you could buy a GT-R, Z06, Viper, 911 Turbo (not nec new) and mop the floor w/ it. That's how I would look at it from a performance standpoint. On the other hand, if I just wanted a badass Mustang, I'd save cash and buy a GT500. That's all I was saying. Nothing more, nothing less. I would NEVER nutswing on anything w/ Shelby's name on the front. I'm generally not a fan of him nor his products. But it's a relative value in comparison to some Roush and Saleen cars. But I will say Saleen's trucks are sweet as f#ck....

True. But then one could also take it one step even further...
Take the price of a GT500, buy a V6 and build the crap out of it with the extra money. You'd have a car that out performs the GT500.

I guess it all comes down to what you want.

Well, of course you always run into that dillemna, but the Shelby is at least comparable to Saleens and Roushes (for the most part) in terms of panache and exotic factor. And you still get performance that's pretty damn close.

I look at it this way: my car will take a curve or corner very well (alot better than it did stock...that's for sure). Now, do I think it's a "tossable" car like say, an STI or S2000? Of course not. But I think of my GT's capabilities in terms of what I do with it on the streets. And truth is that having a tossable car is only necessary if I wanna go autocrossing.......which I don't, or if I want to do alot of sudden weaving thru obstacles or cars......which is downright foolish on public roads. So as long as my GT can pick up and go when I stab the accelerator (which it does), and go around a turn at a decent clip when I feel the need (which it certainly does)...then that's all I care about.

Yes, alot of ppl give the S197 platform flak for not being tossable, but that doesn't even come close to translating to: can't do anything but go in a straight line.

As far as the GT500 vs all the tuner Mustangs.......I think the main difference is that the tuner GT's manage to stay lighter because they aren't toting around the iron block 5.4 that the Shelby is. Are they worth the extra coin? That depends on the buyer. Me.....I can't even afford a Shelby at cost right now, let alone something pricey like a Saleen S302E. So...no, I'd rather spend a couple grand and get my GT's performance up to those specs without having to pay a huge markup to a middleman. But that's what works best for me. I can't say that, if I made a 7 figure salary, that I wouldn't spare myself the trouble and take a look at these high end tuner Mustangs. So in the end, how reasonable these cars are depends on how deep your pockets are, as well as what your tastes are. Pretty simple really.
