Turbo 5.0L IMO can and should be realized in the future of Ford and Shelby..... more efficient and lighter and better gas milage and easily upgradeable like any of the prev years mustangs. Need direct injection too!

Basically they stick with the v8 because of tradition and exhaust note.

is it even possible to make a v6 with a tradition sounding exhaust of a v8?

Well do remember that if the GT truly will be getting the new 4V 5.0.....it means the price will be going up. Expect 31-34K pricewise. This is where having the ecoboost model becomes so important, because it will basicly take the spot of the current GT in the lineup (300-350hp for under 29K). I think that arrangement works quite nicely, and it also means that the GT will be considered a much higher class Mustang than it has in the past (where the Cobras and Machs made the GT seem a bit lowly).

And yes, I do actually hope that the Coyote replaces the current 5.4........it is capable of identical, if not better, performance. Seems there is a replacement for displacement afterall............it's called technology.

I read an article saying that they could have a 2.0L ecoboost 4 cylinder as the low end engine for a base mustang around 20k just like now. Camaro was thinking about doing this as well.

Can we surmise that if the ecoboost v6 has 355hp that a 4 cylinder would have about 250-300hp?

i dont think so. exhaust tone's are all based on the cut of the crank, and the degree of offset between cylinder detonation.

if you think about the future of gas and gas prices.......... v8's may be on the way out in as little as 5-10 years. V6's with direct injection and 300-400hp may become the new "muscle" of america.

are we ready to accept this? Personally for me. at the age of 27.......im old enough to know that nothing is as romantic as a V8. Nothing sounds as good or rumbles as good.

However i am young enough to be accepting of thing kind of change.

With that........bring on the 400hp v6's !! Besides........cheaper insurance right? haha.

They should have put the 5.0L in the 2010 model which definitely would make all the '09 buyers mad, but if they put the 5.0 in the 2010 and left the v6 stock then they wouldn't have to worry about the 2011 3.5L beating the previous years GT...

I have to see actual numbers before I'd buy the 5.0 or the ecoboost. Though the ecoboost does sound pretty awesome.

I had a V6 firebird. I know they arent exactly built for performance, but the thing had NO *****. I had to force a burn out.

Turbo 4's are just as romantic as v8's, when built right.
I'd really like to see what people can do with the turbo 6's performance wise.
