Of course they will. It's a smart idea. As long as they continue to offer a traditional manual as well. Some people may enjoy this new gearbox. The more options, the better.

I love this idea but I see one problem with this no tuning would be allowed. When I was looking for a car to buy I was really intrested in the Evos and they have a similar tranny but the thing that killed it for me is you cant modify car for two reason one the tranny is extremly fragile atm and two the shifting is set up in such a way on auto mode that a significant change in horsepower will throw off the timing. If the ford version can handle highly modded engines they will have alot of awards coming up for them.

This is another great step for them. They def have their $hit together these days. New and improved motors and now trans. The F150 got motor trend truck of the year, and they're the only one of the big 3 that doesn't need help. Go FORD!

+1 The release says that almost all its transmissions will be advanced 6 speed autos by 2013. I'd imagine that niched cars like the Mustang will retain a manual gearbox option of some sort. Ford doesn't really have that many performance models to start with, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Mustang was the only manual optioned vehicle in their NA lineup by 2013.
