We could get spanked by a Taurus.

yes, theyre the idiots because they didnt know that ford officially stated that they will be using the 5.0 motor in the new gts, instead of just hearing it as a rumor around the interwebs....oh wait a minute.... i guess ford never did mention putting that motor in a mustang.... interweb rumors are ftw! idiot.

And I dont see the Taurus quite being a "luxury" sedan yet.

honestly, i think its gonna be sick. Think of the SHO's at the time they were produced, they hung with stock mustangs. So why not do it again? people still bought em regardless of the rediculous price tag back then too

Look at it this way, now we know Ford is willing to let the ecoboost cars roll off the assembly line packing 365hp (much more than the 340hp I was expecting). Anyone here disappointed that that motor will probably end up in the Mustang in the next year or two?
And yea, all the stuff about the new Mustang powerplants are unconfirmed. But even Ford's beancounters aren't dumb enough to leave the Mustang........their HALO car..........sitting in the slow lane while the grocery getters are getting kickass drivetrains. We just have to put up with the 2010 year model "stop-gap"....which I know is a problem for everyone.
I think it goes without saying that the Mustang is destined for something better than 315hp fairly soon. An ecoboost Mustang is almost a no-brainer at this point. And a factory twin turbo 365hp Mustang will be nothing to sneeze at even if the 400hp 5.0 turns out to be a unicorn myth.

The future Mustangs will no doubt have some form of increased powerplant, but unless you are willing to put the money down every 4 years...get ready to have the next "grocery-getter" eat your lunch.
I think my 06 GT will be my one and only Mustang. I'll probably do the whole SC/Forged Internals, but I definately won't participate in Ford's scheme of "Keeping up with the Jones's". The Taurus is 38K...but how much will people end up paying when they turn around and buy a 2010 Mustang after buying a S197 4 years earlier?

Looks like a nice car. It should be very close to mustang performance-even though it has 50 more hp, it weighs what 4100 lbs or so, so power-to-weight should be very close bet. the two. But you guys have to remember that the mustang is a "reasonably" priced sports coupe, while the taurus will be the company's halo luxury-performance sedan. Similar to the genesis sedan that has 375 hp, but the upcoming coupe with 310 hp should be quicker. The price does sound a little steep though. I'd be willing to bet the 2011 mustang will have a version of the turbo 6 with about 375 hp. I really wanted to get the 2010 mustang, but now I don't know, that engine looks enticing, plus finances are'nt that great right now anyways. But if they do announce the mustang with the new power plant sometime soon, the 2010's could have some big discounts come fall or winter...
