why no standard 5.4l in the gt

You're right. They have a winning formula right now, and in these times especially, they are not going to change that. It doesn't matter that the maro has 100 more hp, still more stangs will probably sell. A lot of people out there will buy a mustang thinking its the fastest thing on the market because it has a v8 and don't realize there are some 4 bangers that will hang with it. So to many people the 4.6 is plenty.

I would like to see something more powerful. Something to keep up with the Hemi but looking at it, it wouldnt be smart business. Look how many Mustangs are selling (because IMO they are the average Joe's toy, its the car he can afford), where the American compitition is not selling the same amount.

Thats why we are all relying on the 5.0 for next year. So we too can play and hopefully smoke the 2 big dogs. And in doing so we have over a liter less of displacement and still be n/a. I really hope Ford doesn't let us down on the 5.0.

the 4.6L has worked for them for the last 13 yrs and other than going from a 2v to a 3v in the standard GT hasnt been too many real big changes. People dont realize that your base 5.4L although sounds like a good idea it is much harder to modify and you really dont get alot of increase unless your willing to spend thousands of dollars.

Because they are getting the return of the 5.0L and that will be used in the stangs and the F150 in 2011 (400BHP)....not sure what they will offer in the GT500 but that's TBD.

I keep seeing the reference to the HEMI. The thing is that the tiny little 4.6 int eh 2010 mustang beat the challenger R/T (370HP 5.7L Hemi) in almost every test in the Motor Trend Camaro/Mustang/Challenger shoot out...It actually saddened me because I am a Mopar man and love the HEMI engine, however, the challenger is just too damned heavy...This is why I own a Mustang GT now, I was able to buy one much cheaper and have more money for mods for a car that is already as fast as a new challenger R/T. In my opinion on cars it is much easier to add HP through aftermarket then to cut weight.....
