Default Ford Stock...Good Buy

Ok, I know we all love our cars...but just was curious to know if anyone is willing to invest in Ford. As or right now the stock is trading at $6.30...seems like a decent buy.

Here are my thoughts
-Earnings growth has been strong
-They have plenty of cash on hand
-With GM sinking...they could be the future of American Cars

Nonetheless...let me know thoughts

I wouldn't buy it and here is why, look at the political situation we are in, we have way more stringent CAFE standards going into place, which means all the car makers are going to have to make smaller lighter cars, the only way the american car companies do well is by making larger cars, SUV's and maybe some muscle cars, they will not be able to do that with obama's CAFE standards, you can kiss cars like the mustang goodbye, forget about a SUV, this really stacks the deck in favor of the jap and korean cars, as we can't make small cars with the same quality and same profit margin as they can. its troubling times we are headed for

just wanted to say that is a very nice looking car you got there, it looks very clean, too many guys on here try to make their cars into rice rockets, stock wheels look great, that color looks good with silver or black stripes on the hood and over the top

Since there's a few topics going on here:

1) I would certainly buy Ford stock. The company is still a solid PRIVATE car manufacturer. Besides, supporting a product that I own and use only helps secure it's value.

2) The new MPG standards are in the making, but aren't supposed to go into effect until 2016.

3) Build quality between Ford and companies like Hyundai (Kia), Isuzu, Mazda, Toyota doesn't compare. Being an automotive tech. myself, I have had numerous conversations regarding almost every manufacturer. What we all agreed upon is that every manufacturer has built a 'lemon' at some point. However, we agreed that some companies continue to severely cut corners (4 intake bolts instead of 8, 3 rib engine belts instead of 5, etc.).

So.... what do these foreign car companies do better than Ford?.... They simply have a higher profit margin due to spending less on designing and building the car.

4) Ford Motor Company is well into the process of moving the entire line of vehicles into being fuel efficient. With solid performers like the Focus (and Fiesta overseas), Fusion Hybrid and F-150 diesel (in development), I am not concerned with Ford going out of business. With that said- I AM CONCERNED that the Mustang may change (eventually) into a car that isn't classified as a muscle car. So, enjoy it while it lasts.

I now return my soapbox.
