Its official! The 5.0 has returned with 412/390 NOW WITH VIDEOS!!

We all knew about the specs, but this morning the information on the 2011 Mustang GT left embargo...there still isnt really "complete" information, but this is a pretty good start and look at what makes the new 5.0 tick.

While tons of information was leaked ahead of time, as of December 28, 2009, the 2011 Ford Mustang GT information is official. We all knew that the GT would be powered by a 5.0L V8 making 412 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque but with the release of their December 28 press release, full information on the new 5.0 is pretty complete.

We still don’t know an actual curb weight, although Ford claims that the new 412hp Mustang GT weighs just 10 pounds more than the current 315hp 2010 model. The massive amount of technology that went into the new 5.0 allows this engine to make great power and offer comparable fuel economy to the rest of the class and in their engineering efforts it appears as though the Mustang GT will hold its substantial advantage in weight over the cross town rival Camaro and Challenger.

One interesting piece of news is that Ford will be offering a special Brembo brake package along with 19” wheels and high performance tires, with the brake setup being similar to that found on the GT500 models.

There are still some questions about the 2011 Mustang GT, but for now this announcement gives the world a better glimpse into what is coming for the 2011 Mustang at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. The only big question left to be answered is, of course, how much will it cost?

THANKS for the videos Demon! Listening to that engine start to growl at 3000RPM nearly made me drool.

Says the Albuquerque Examiner, are you out of the good old 505? :D

Demon 340 12-28-2009 02:34 PM

no...I write for the Detroit Examiner, but the Examiner has branches all over the country. When you log in, even to look at my column, it "reads" your IP address and makes your examiner starting page your local branch.

I would have posted the videos last night but I sat up waiting for Fords embargo to end and I completely forgot about the videos...

Did it get near 7000rpm?! O.O

Demon 340 12-29-2009 12:19 AM

I think it sounds good, and the 5.0 badge looks good redesigned ever so slightly.

Round is the new squared.

Man, makes my 305hp Cobra seem like a kids toy! A few years from now, maybe I can pick up a gently used 2011 5.0... There's no way I can justify a new one, especially with a family, and having a company car.

about time they brought it back

69 HP Per Liter for The 6.2 CAMARO

69 HP Per Liter for The DODGE CHARGER SRT-8 6.1 HEMI

82.4 HP PER CUBIC LITER MUSTANG 5.0
Light Chassis and Built to Race, from the frame up.

65 HP PER CUBIC LITER MUSTANG 4.6 3 VALVE

With the 7,000 rpm dyno, this tells us the car has lightweight internals and a solid short block.

So in Layman's Term's, I would state Ford has done a dam good job at power and efficiency.
