89 5.0 liter vs. new 3.7
A couple of questions regarding 2011 v6 mustang:
Why did Ford go with a 3.7 liter v6, rather than the 3.5 ecoboost used on Ford's other cars?
Also how will the new 3.7 liter perform as compared to my old 89 5.0 liter?
Please keep in mind that I'm an old guy now and rocket ship acceleration is no longer my thing. I'm also thinking about going from my
89's auto, to a manual 6 speed. Any thoughts?
thanks, Mike

Hey Mike!
- Ford used the naturally aspirated 3.7L engine over the twin-turbo ecoboost for two reasons I'd assume. First, the 3.7L is cheaper to produce since it's naturally aspirated and doesn't have expensive internals, whereas the 3.5 eco has twin turbos and more expensive internals; and since the V6 Mustang has always been a "bargain Mustang" that must compete with the Camaro's pricing, so this was a logical choice to keep the price low. Secondly the 3.5 ecoboost creates 355 horsepower, which would likely hurt the sales of the Mustang GT.
-The 3.7L will be considerably faster and more fuel efficient than your 89. 1/4 mile times are expected to be around the sub 14 second times, possibly even better.
-Going from an Auto to a Manual is a blast!

89 5.0 owner myself... i would just about kill for the six speed. personally have the five speed manual and love every second of it... Cant go wrong, unless you live in a high traffic area in which clutching thru traffic is quite a work out.

Traffic keeps me in shape. Helped me make varsity track with traffic and a king cobra clutch. My calves were huuuuge.
Anyways, I'm going with a T-56 transmission soon. Hopefully squeeze some gas mileage out of my car with 4.10 gears.
