Default Questions about special ordering a Mustang

So I will be ordering a 2012 GT white with red interior, 3.55 gears and 19” wheels. I have a few questions that I’m hoping that someone that has ordered a car from Ford can answer for me. I’m selling my current mustang private party and will be using my wife’s old car until I get my new one, since we just bought a used Escape for her and then trading the old car in.

My question is does anyone know how the trading in process work on a special order vehicle. Since I will need the car I want to trade in to drive to work while my car is built and then delivered. Do they take delivery of the trade in vehicle when I place the order for my car or when my car comes in and I take delivery of my new vehicle?

I’ve talked to one of the local dealerships in limited detail but they did tell me that it would take 12-14 weeks for my new car to be built and delivered. Anyone had extremely longer or shorter wait time?

Thanks in advanced for any help and input.

I can't speak for a special order, but when I ordered my 2011 Silverado, I didn't trade in my old one until it had arrived. But that's Chevy. I bought my mustang new, that day so I'm not sure for Ford.

im pretty sure they dont take your trade until you finalize the deal. as in sign all paperwork for your new car, especially if you are using that as a downpayment on the new one. it did take me bout 3 months for mine to be built this time last year.

they won't take your trade until the vehicle has arrived and all the paperwork is signed...i've had ppl place orders multiple times...we don't take their trade till the vehicle arrives, if your dealer says you have to trade it in now, walk out and go to another dealer...because God forbid something go wrong, you can't get the car back because you signed it over to them...no paperwork should be signed with an order anyways, except for a pre-PNS (Purchase-n-Sales) but nothing on that is final
