Question Mustang Prices = S197 > New Models

So it's time for me to buy my 5th Mustang. Started with a V6 '03, then had a True Blue '01 Bullitt, '08 V6 Pony, and finally a '14 V6.

I was never really in love with the '14 and sold her about six months ago and now need to fill the other side of my garage with a Mustang.

I prefer the look of the S197s and that is what I plan to purchase. It seems the market price for an S197 ('05-'09) is higher than some of the newer models.

In other words, a 2008 with 45,000 miles selling for same price as a 2014 of same model with similar mileage.

Are others noticing the same? What is driving this, the body style of the S197 or something else?

What I've noticed is 05-09 GTs are under $15k, and 11-14 GTs are $20-$25k for clean, lowish mileage examples

Not what I have seen either.

2005-10 all are running less than a 2011-14 GT.

I just ran a search on autotrader.com for 2008-2014 Mustangs with V8, leather, heated seats, and automatic (to keep things similar)

And the 2014 are the highest priced and the 2009 is the lowest price - similar mileage on 2012, 2010, and a 2009 and they are priced from highest to lowest in model year. The 2013 with similar mileage is higher priced. The 2014's that came up are very low mileage and higher priced.

Hmm. Maybe since I prefer the S197, my bias is impacting the way I look that the numbers. Let me take a step back and try to look at this differently.

My 2014 Mustang is much better than my 2005.

Look for as new as you can afford.

Better in what way? Newer - yes. Lower Miles - yes. More technology - yes.

What else makes it "better?"

It's not a matter of what I can afford. I can afford a brand new one. It is a matter of what I want to spend my money on based on my preferences. I prefer the look of the S197 over the look of 2010 and newer. Again, just my preference.

2010-2014 is S197 The later ones are just feel a little more solid.

If you really like the look that much then you should get one. With all the money you save you could throw a lot into mods (supercharger) if you want to match the go fast of a 5.0

Lots of people like the early model. But the 5.0s I'm seeing are bringing much more money. Find a low mileage early model and throw money at it. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
