Mustang totaled?
Hello!
The other night while while on my commute home - a row of cars slammed on their brakes in front of me and wrecked together.
I wasn’t paying good enough attention and ran into the back of an SUV in front of me. The traffic was stop and go so I was going less than probably 10 miles an hour.
ANYWAYS her suv was virtually unscathed HOWEVER my car was badly damaged.
I drive a 2016 Mustang EcoBoost. Convertible premium. the included picture is the aftermath of the damage.
im heartbroken to say the least!
Here are the details and I’m hoping that someone might be able to tell me if this car will be totaled.
-the air bags didn’t deploy
-the car was still driving because I had to move it over to the side of the road.
-driver door still opened however a slight “think” sound when you open it
-passenger door looked as if I tried to open it, it might scrape the front fender. NOT GOOD!
Both th front rims and tires are fine
-radiator is most likely busted because there was fluid on the ground.
-all glass is intact and I damaged
-turbo and engine seem okay from what I could tell.
-all front cosmetics are definitely going to have to be replaced.
Im scared to death right now. In between jobs and I don’t need this car totaled because I’ll be in big trouble if it has to be.
Thoughts?

obviously! They are supposed to be sending their guy out here on the few few days of next week.
But im so stressed right now I’d like to atleast get other opinions.
Many first thought is that it’ll be repaired because the car is still relatively “newer” being only a year old.
I know now there are a lot of people on this forum that have been around the block a few times an just wanted to get what they had to say

I don't think it will be totaled either but then my opinion doesn't matter in the final analysis. There was a new GT 350 on the forum last year with "just a left side fender and front grill/facea damage and the insurance company totaled it. Looked like $5K or so worth of damage to many, but alas, totaled. Who knows?!

If enough of the mono chassis and sub structure are damaged, they will total it, regardless of what the cost to fix it is. They consider a number of things when totaling a car. What was actually damaged and how much it will cost to fix. If too many key safety design items were damaged, they will total it and mark it as salvage.
I've seen less damage than that from an accident where the car went under the bumper of an SUV and got totaled.
Anyways, insurance will tell you.
