MY LOSS YOUR GAIN. SEARCHED FOR MANY MONTHS TO FIND THIS CAR. WAS LOOKING FOR A NEAR PERFECT EXAMPLE FOR MY WIFE AND LOOKED AT ALOT OF JUNK, BEAT UP OR HEAVILY MODIFIED CARS BEFORE I FOUND THIS ONE. YOU WILL NOT FIND AN 01 GT CONVERTABLE IN BETTER CONDITION - THIS CAR STOOD OUT BECAUSE IT WAS IN TIP TOP CONDITION AND A VERY RARE COLOR COMBINATION. AFTER I BOUGHT IF I RESEARCHED IT AND FOUND OUT THAT FORD ONLY MADE APPROX 2700 IN THIS COLOR (ELECTRIC GREEN) FOR THIS YEAR AND ONLY ABOUT 1000 WERE CONVERTABLES AND EVEN LESS WITH BLACK INTERIOR AND TOP (THE OTHERS WERE BEIGE TOP/INTERIOR - YUCK!). IT IS THE ORIGINAL PAINT IN NEARLY PERFECT CONDITION. THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THE CAR WAS THAT SOON AFTER I BOUGHT IT I STARTED HEARING A STRANGE MOTOR NOISE. AFTER HAVING IT DIAGNOSED AN ENGINE SPECIALIST AND RECIEVED THE TERRIBLE DIAGNOSIS - A NEW MOTOR WAS NEEDED. THIS CAR HAS A FRESHLY REBUILT 4.6 WITH LESS THAN 500 MILES WHICH COST ME $4600 DOLLARS. THE REASON THIS CAR NEEDED A NEW ENGINE WAS NOT BECAUSE THE CAR WAS BEAT ON - THERE IS SOMETHING THAT MOST OF YOU PROBABLY ALREADY KNOW ABOUT 01 MUSTANGS. IN THE OWNERS MANUAL THE CAR CALLS FOR 5 QUARTS OF OIL, HOWEVER, FORD RELEASED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN MID YEAR STATING THAT THE ENGINE SHOULD HAVE 6 QUARTS AND THERE WAS A RECALL WHERE THE DEALER WOULD REPLACE THE OIL DIPSTICK WITH A NEW ONE ADJUSTED TO 6 QUARTS OF OIL. I ASSUME THE PERSON WHO OWNED THE CAR BEFORE ME DID NOT KNOW THIS AND THAT IS WHAT KILLED THE STOCK ENGINE. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN 01 MAKE SURE TO ASK WHOEVER YOU ARE BUYING IT FROM IF THEY KNOW ABOUT THIS, OTHERWISE THAT VEHICLE WILL PROBABLY NEED AN ENGINE SOON UNBEKNOWNST TO ITS OWNER. YOU CAN GO ON MUSTANG FORUMS AND LOOK THIS UP. IT IS WELL KNOWN.

THE ONLY REASON I AM SELLING IT IS BECAUSE AFTER ALL THIS, MY WIFE DECIDED SHE WANTS A MINI VAN - WE BARELY DRIVE THE CAR RIGHT NOW, IT IS STORED IN OUR AIR CONDITIONED GARAGE UNTIL WE FIND ITS NEXT OWNER. I CANNOT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH THE CONDITION OF THIS CAR - IT IS SHOWROOM NEW, ANY IMPERFECTIONS WERE ADDRESSED, THE LEATHER IS IN NEAR PERFECT CONDITION - THE PAINT IS NEAR PERFECT WITH NOT 1 DOOR DING. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF TINY CHIPS THAT WERE TOUCHED UP WITH THE ORIGINAL COLOR AND ARE ONLY NOTICABLE IF YOU BRING A MAGNIFYING GLASS WITH YOU WHEN YOU COME LOOK AT IT WORD TO THE WISE, IF YOU ARE SHOPPING THESE CARS YOU WANT AN 01 OR NEWER. 2001 WAS THE FIRST YEAR FOR THE DOUBLE DIN RADIO (THE PREVIOUS YEARS HAD THE RADIO AND CD PLAYER IN SEPARATE LOCATIONS) IT WAS ALSO THE FIRST YEAR FOR TRACTION CONTROL AND THANKFULLY THEY CHANGED THE CUPHOLDER LOCATION - THE PREVIOUS YEARS HAD ONE OF THE CUPHOLDERS LOCATED WHERE IT WAS UNUSABLE ON 5 SPEED CARS. THIS CAR HAS SPENT ITS LIFE IN SOUTHERN STATES AND DOES NOT HAVE THE RUST AND CORROSION ISSUES OF CARS THAT YOU MIGHT BE SHOPPING IN NORTHERN STATES. AND NO, THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A HITCH, THE FIRST PIC IS A PROMO FOR A TRAILER THAT WE SELL, IT IS NOT HOOKED UP TO THE CAR

Have any links to the 01recall by anychance? I have a 01 and it has 73k miles on it and I am S/C'd so proper oil is critical

I do not, but I read it on either this, or one the the other forums and there were several posts from different posters about it, might want to start a new thread about it...

ive never ever heard of such a thing about an 01 needing more oil.. 99-04 had identical blocks besides valve cover bolts. so why in the world would it only be a recall for an 01?

If you do a search on this forum you will see quite a few posts about it, the mention of the recall was on this or another forum. the post below is from Cliff and he seems to be very well versed in the 1999-2004 Mustangs.

"Your 2001 owners manual will say 5.0 qts, however independent testing in late 2000 (IIRC) found some oil starvation in high G turns and Ford changed the recommendation to 6.0 qts (with filter change), and changed the dipstick markings as well. So your's will show overfull on the stick with 6 qts--make a new mark...

Some have run as much as 7 however there is no need to...
