3 day old 07 Mustang GT with the good stuff.
Hey every body ! I feel like a kid again since driving off the lot last Saturday in my 07 Mustang GT. Nobody I know can believe that I would be caught dead in a Ford! I have had the idea that Fords suck since I got my first car, a 65 Mustang that my Dad bought for me in 1970 right after I turned 16. It was that dark blue Ford had or maybe has now, with a white interior. It had the top loader 4 speed, the cool rally cluster on the steering collum, and nice console.
It was a 289 hi performance. We called em HY-PO's with the " POWERED BY FORD " valve covers rated at 271 horses. I was the burnout king for a short time in the high school parkng lot. Allway's the show off, I had like 6 people stuffed into the car and everybody especially my girlfriend was telling me to "LET IT EAT". So it ate its self! I stopped, revved it up to about 5.000 rpm, and dropped the clutch..... the speedometer went to 110 in an instant but the car didnt move an inch! Mr. Cool "me" snapped the main shaft in the transmission under all the load.
My girlfriend, was asking " what's the hold up? " every body else was either laughing or looking around trying to figure what just happaned. We had to walk for miles to get back to town, on the way, my girlfriend became my buddies girlfirend, after all his VW bus still ran!
My Dad was of course not happy! I blamed all my stupidity on my poor Mustang and sold it for next to nothing. I was 16 then, Im 52 now, and I think a bit smarter, Im just not able to grow up! But after I started seeing the new Mustangs especially the GT's I couldnt help but appreciate it. The retro-67 Mustang look made me go on to a Ford lot for the first time in my life. I have been a Mopar fan, and still own a 68 GTS Dart with a 440 Magnum and a 74 Duster with a 225 slant six my Wife drives every day. I saw for my self up close that Fords were great cars, at least the Mustang.
My new GT has 470 miles on it, and has the premium interior with 5 speed manual. The 500 watt shaker is PLENTY for this old man. The "My Colors" option has had me out in the driveway, at night playing with the color changes and my Wife just shakes her head. IM so proud of this car I cant believe it. I traded in my 98 Jeep Wrangler Sahara that bought new in 97 for the "stang" So you can imagin how different my world of driving is. I want to learn all I can about this car and look forward to doing that right here in this forum.
Oh ya, the 07 Mustang GT is WAY faster than my HI PO 289 was even at 470 miles. It is faster than the brand new 1969 Plymouth 440 Roadrunner was, I had a buddy who had one and everybody thought it was awsome and then some!
