Default Failing CA smog test

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum and I need some advice to help my 5.0 pass the lovely CA smog test. I have high HC readings (max is 84, mine is 133) and certainly have failed twice. I have a BBK cold air intake kit using a BBK 70mm TB. MSD TFI coil and a set of Bosch platinum 4 plugs are the only igintion mods so far. I'm still running with the crappy stock exhaust using 4 cat's. The stock fuel pump died and was replaced w/ a 190lph pump by JBA.I have a mild cam which came with the car when I bought it (med idle), so I have no idea what the spec's are on it. I passed smog every time using the above parts minus the MSD coil, but it won't pass this year.

So far in attempts to fix it I've done the following, but still won't pass...

1. Put in autolite plugs gapped at 54*
2. New set of 9mm motorsport wires
3. Put the stock coil back on
4. Put the stock intake and TB back on
5. Set timing to 10*
6. Changed oil & fuel filter.
7. All smog equipment was replaced/ tested last yr by JBA

Welcome to the board, unfortunately, I can not answer your question. I am sure there is someone else that can. Please give them some time to respond. Nice Stang btw!

Sucks for you man. Luckily I am exempt from smog emissions since I have a 2004.

Get a tuner and check your A/F ratio... try making it leaner just for the smog test.
