Grinding Noise on Cold Start UP

Grinding Noise on Cold Start UP
I've got a 2006 V-6 automatic Mustang with just over 12K miles on it. When the outside temperature is below freezing I get either a ticking or grinding noise with first driven (grinding noise at colder temperatures that lasts for the first mile or so). The dealer confirmed the noise and says it's coming from the transmission. However, since the problem didn't last long enough in their shop to isolate where in the tranmission, they won't do anything. Their suggestion (after having the car almost 2 weeks) is to drive it until it gets worse then bring it back.
Has anyone else had this same problem?
Now that the weather is getting warmer, the noise has gone away. The dealer thinks it should be OK to drive, their guess is the noise is coming from the front pump.
Needless to say, I'm not too happy with their stance.
Anybody have an idea what is going on here?
