Default I am new here,and have a few 1988 ?`s

hey everbody, just joined and want to say hello, been a while since I have has a mustang, when I was 18 I had a 84 gt, sold it to get married, then at 22 bought a 70 when I got divorced and sold that at 28 to build a new house, well last week I picked up a 1988 lx ragtop with a 5.0 and a 5-speed, got a few questions, maybe some of you can help, from what I have heard it is pretty common for the fuel guage not to work, when full it reads 1/4 tank, does anyone know if it is usually the sending unit or the guage that is the problem?the other question is is anyone out there good with the 1/4 windows on the convertables?left doesn`t work but I think it is just the switch, but the right won`t stay up,the motor runs and the glass won`t move, the previous owner had it apart,I think some parts are missing, any help would be great, thanks alot,Tim.

Sounds like the quarter window motors are gone. They have plastic gears in them and are prone to fail. Check out ebay for some used motors( the dealers charge an arm and a leg). Also, there are repair kits you can buy to replace just the gears. If the motor runs, that may be a better option than buying a whole new motor. They are not hard to replace, but can be a pain to get to. Check out the Vert sub forum under General Tech. Welcome to the board!
