BUILD OR BUY
MY FIRST POST OBVIOUSLY. ANYWAY, I'VE COME TO YOU ALL FOR FACTS, THOUGHS AND OPINIONS. I'M CURRENTLY RIDING IN A '94 LAZER RED GT IN STOCK TRIM WITH LOW MILES. I PICKED HER UP THREE YEARS AGO AND NOW ITS TIME TO 'BUILD OR BUY'. THE BUY OPTION WOULD BE A '98 COBRA(MY PERSONAL FAVORITE) OR DOES A GUY SINK THAT EXTRA PURCHASE PRICE CASH INTO THE OL' 5OH.

I would buy then build

But if I had to choose then I guess I would build the 94 GT. The 98 Cobra is faster initially and looks better initially, but I guess Im just wierd like that

YEAH THAT WOULD BE THE CATS ***. PICK UP A COBRA AND 'INVEST' IN IT BUT UNFORTUNATLY THAT WOULD LEAVE ME SLEEPING OUTSIDE, OR THEBACK SEAT. IT WOULD SEE EXHUAST, SPRINGS, SHIFTER & INDUCTION HOWEVER.

MY BIGGESTQUARUM IS THE 5.0 ITSELF. AFTER DRIVING SOME 4 VALVES I FIND THE THE PUSHROD 5.0 IS LIKE BEING BACK IN MY OLD CAMARO (OOPS).

I KNOW A LOT OF GUYS BUILD THE 5.0 AND IT DOESN'T TAKE LONG AND THEY START BLOWIN BLUE. ALL I WANT COMIN' OUT MY PIPES IS THE SWEET SOUND OF VICTORY.

The old 5.0's are much cheaper and easier to modify... you wanna slap a cam ina 5.0? Sure no prob gimme 3 hours, couple beers, and 200 bucks and you got 30 more hp and a mean sounding idle.... not so with a 4.6

Things like a cam swap were one of the first things I ever did on any mustang I've had, but now that I drive a 4.6 it will be one of the last... Oh and imagine spending 250 bucks per camshaft X4 for a cobra... you get my point right

I DO REALIZE THE 5.0 IS MUCH CHEAPER TO MODIFY BUT A CAM SWAP WOULD NOT BE AN OPTION IN THE 4.6 ALTHOUGH, BEER IS ALWAYS GOOD.

IMO THE 5.0 IS LAGGING BEHINDIN TECHNOLOGY. (I LOVETECHNOLOGY)

EVERYTIME I DRIVE A COBRA IT MAKES MY GT FEEL LIKE A DOG. THE QUALITY JUST ISN'T THERE

YOUR RIGHT - I SHOULD GO COBRA....I WOULD MODIFY THE '94 BUT I DON'T TRUST IT WITHOUT DOING BOTTOM END AND CRAP (TOO MUCH - YOU MUST REMEMBER PARTS IN CANADA ARE ABOUT 2 TO 3x THE COST).

THE COBRAS ARETIGHTER CARS. I GUESS ITS NOT THE 'QUALITY' ITS MORE OF THE COMPONENTS THAT ARE USED ie: SUSPENSION, PLUS THE 4 VALVE IS SOMETHING I WOULD HAVE MORE CONFIDENCE IN BRINGING TO THE RED ON A FREQUENT BASIS.

I DON'T HAVE MUCH EXPERIENCE WITH THE 5.0 BUT I DO KNOW ITISN'T A MOTOR THAT WILL LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER WITH 4:10'S FOR A DAILY DRIVER. YOU RUN OUT OF ROOM TO QUICK.IT'S ALREADY TO EASY TO PUSH IT WITH THE STOCK 3.08'SIT JUST ISN'T BUILT FOR IT. AND LIKE I SAID I'M NOT ABOUT TO SPEND A BUNCH OF MONEY ON BOTTOM END, AND I CAN'T STAND CARS THAT BLOW BLUE...ITS BUGS THE F'K OUTTA ME.

THE COBRA'SARE A BETTERCARIMO...THEY ALSO SUIT MY DRIVING PERSONALITY BETTER. (IF ITS NOT AT 5, WHY BOTHER DRIVE)

I wouldn't say 5.0's are "behind technology" quite yet. The 302 is a great engine, and lightweight, and definitely easy to modify. Yeah the 4V Cobras are sweet as all hell, and what Mustang lover wouldn't want one....but in all honesty you could spend a lot less on a 5.0 fox and modify it to whoop the living snot out of a 4V Cobra.

One more thing about the 5.0, if you build it right from the ground up with quality parts, like any other engine, it will take some serious abuse and not crap out on you. It's all about the workmanship put into an engine that determines how it will perform.
<edited><editID>USAMuscle</editID><editDate>37890.8947685185</editDate></edited>
