Default First Ford....'88 Mustang LX Hatchback

Hi new here,
Bought my first ford a couple of weeks ago to be a daily driver. I purchased a 1988 LX mustang hatcback from my friends wife. She ordered a 1988 LX mustang with GT drivetrain from here dad who was somekind of exec. in the ford corportation "Her Story" in august of 1987. Not really sure what the means??
Its a dark red hatchback 5.0, 5spd along with GT wheels or I think there GT wheels "aluminum with nine or ten d-shape or half moon holes around the edge", 68,000 miles. Theres absolutey no flaws in the paint or the interior. No scratchs, chips in the paint. No broken dash piecs, no tears or stains in the interior. Then engine and engine compartment is clean, never had any oil leaks.
She took excellent care of it, she handed a box of reciepts full of repairs and oil changes all done at the ford dealership. She also kept a log of fuel mileage starting with the first tank of gas. So far it appears it gets 20-21 mpg in town and 24-25 on the highway. It was always spent the night in the garage since it was new.
A friend works as a mechanic at a local saturn dealership, he set me up with there detailer. He put a renewed shine on he paint, cleaned the interior and steam cleaned the engine compartment. It turned out great. Not that it was bad in the first place. Other than that I tinted the windows.
I have a few questions…
1) The seatbelt retractors are kinda weak..Not wanting to suck the seatbelt up when you take it off. You have to feed it a little and it will take off. Any ideas on what to do there. I was thinking of pulling the plastic cover off and see if they are dragging on something and maybe lube it a little.

2) What size tires can you fit on these cars on the stock rims?? There appears to be some room. Currently it has a set of 225x15.

Working on figuring on how to load pictures...

welcome!

1.this is very common and may be some dragging or the belts have been twisted repeatedly over time and are badly worn
2. could go up to a x16 or 17 for sure.

Hey there. I'm new here too. That 88 reminds me of the one I had. Mine was the little 4 cylinder and it was'nt a hatchback. It had the little LX badge on the trunk. I always thought that was a nice way of saying, "Not the GT", but aparently yours is the 5.0. I'll have to find an old picture of it and post it. It was 12 years old when we finally got rid of it. Catch you later!

Thanks, I've been trying to find time to work on those seatbelts. I called Ford and they don't sell new belts at least the dealership I called. I really haven't had a chance to look around

Good choice man, I have an 88GT l. I have that same belt problem, and my belts are not worn at all. I just have to pull it out to make it retract when I put it on. OH yea, very important...I tried yanking my shoulder part of the belt as fast as i could with it on and it does not LOCK.. this means in a wreck you could hit the steering wheel and we have no air bags. Check out 5.0 resto, they carry the belts. I am going to get belts ASAP.
