Anyone know what the Iowa exhaust/muffler laws are? I've tried searching the net and can't find anything. Is anything altered considered illegal or is it just if it's over a certain decibel?

I've tried searching the net and can't find anything under the Des Moines Police Department or DOT or DMV.. I've tried it all. I even wrote a couple of emails asking them a week ago, but no one responded.

The only thing I found on one site was that you have to have a muffler and that's it. Which I already knew that much.

Has anyone out there gotten the "defective exhaust" ticket in Iowa? Did they give you a reason as to why it was illegal? Noise? Smog laws? Is it illegal to install an exhaust system entirely?
