Keep it Stock?
Hello All!
I just bought my first mustang. It is a 1965 all original coup with the luxury package and a 289. It was driven in a garage where it has been sitting for the last 20 years. It is completely stock and only seems to be missing one hubcap. My question, when rebuilding this, is it best to keep it totally stock, or beef it up some. Like replace the original exhaust with dual exhaust? Put a four barrel carb and cam in the engine? How about replace the drum brakes for disk?

its completely up to you. Thats the joy of owning a classic car. If you want more power and it makes you happy, then go for it.
some people get pride out of having a completely stock original car, i know my dad does, hence why he's been completely restoring them for the past 20 years.
but my 2005 is slowly becoming a decent mod. Its all up to what you want out of the car. Shows or races or mods?

if it was me and my car id most likely mod it but im not really into the restoring and collecting, i like to hqave a nice car to drive around maybe race once in awhile. so its really up to you and what you want out of it. if you want to show it or want the most value all original is the way and keep the miles low to go but if you plan on driving it all the time then id put a cd player or whatever in and make it a little faster.

Welcome to the forums...I don't know...at this point in the cars "life" I think I would try to keep it stock. It is a classic as it sits...I probably won't change that at this point. If I did change something I would probably only replace the exhaust system and maybe an engine upgrade, but with upgrade components that would have been stock for that model mustang at the time, and I'm not sure what was available as options for that model mustang. Just my opinion.
