I'm kinda new to this.
Ok, I just bought an 86 LX 3.8L, with 113K, for $1600. This is my second Mustang. My first Mustang and first car was a 92 LX Convt. with a 2.3L. My first Mustang was in great shape. I planed on fixing it up and modding it but I had to sell it to move to California from Michigan. (I found out a few months later that the buddy mine I sold the car to son totaled it. That sucked.) That was less than a year and a half ago and I just picked up the 86 two weeks ago.
So I want to restore this Mustang. It's in great shape. It needs a few interior parts, very little body work, and paint. The suspension is worn out but I want to upgrade it anyways and when I have the money swap the motor for a 5.0.
I can do any interior or body work and suspension stuff, but I'm new to the more advance motor work. I can do things like change out a starter, or plugs, but as for stuff like timing, heads, wiring, etc I've don't really know much at all. So I'm hoping that I will be able to get some advice and help form this site.
Actually I already have a question. I've heard a lot of of people talking about advancing the timing. I understand the idea, but thats about it. Does really make a difference? Will it hurt my mpg? And how do would you do it on my motor? (86 3.8L carb) Thanks a lot for your help! Cory
