I have a question ripsnort. My 89.. the paint is faded out pretty bad and it actually looks like someone tried to wax it and didn't have a damn clue on what they were doing and messed it all up... it actually might not be faded it might be that the wax or whatever put a layer of the paint and caused it to look like ****.
you have any suggestions on what I could do to get this thing shining again and to look half way decent?
someone told me a clay bar kit and some really really good wax.

If its a clear coat finish, buy a Porter Cable Random orbital polisher. Go to Griots Garage website and order Machine Polish Number 2 and Number 3. Buy some good claybar (Griots sells it too) and first wash the car with Dawn detergent to strip the old wax first, then rinse it, leave the rinse water on, and claybar it. Be SURE you keep the claybar lubricated when you run it over all the surfaces. Rinse again and dry it. Then apply Machine Polish #2. (Polish 2X2 ft. areas, then wipe it, move to the next area, repeat) Do the same with Machine Polish #3. Then apply your favorite wax (I prefer Carnuba-based wax for summer, and a Polymer-based wax for winter) Total cost will be roughly $200 by the time you buy the polisher and the polish, but once you polish with a random orbital polisher, you'll never do it by hand again. It eliminates about 95% of all swirl marks. Hand-wash only! I can't emphasize that enough.
