Default Ca- newbie 1999-2004, which one?

CA newbie here, Im planning on buying a 1999-2004 mustang GT 5 speed, my question is, can anyone give me some feedback on which one I should lean towards buying?, is there a better year? is there any known problems I should look out for on certain years? things like that....
Thanks....

My personal rule of thumb is never to buy in the first 2 years of a new model so the manufacturer has some time to work out the bugs. When it comes to cars like 'stangs (high performance & potential for abuse by younger folks), look for adult-owned and unmodified cars unless the mods were done by a well-respected shop. Too many back-yard mechanics out there and too many wanna be race car drivers to risk buying a pre-modded machine, IMHO...

So, with that in mind, I'd be looking at 2001 or later...

That's a pretty good price. You might make an arrangement with a local shop to take a look at it to be on the safe side.

Welcome to the forums!

I would get whatever one is a good deal!

Ideally, the later the year the better. Even a 04 gt has been sitting (or driven) somewhere for 5 years now. Besides, the last year of a production run is usually the most trouble free.

I've had my 04 for 3 years now, and haven't had a single issue. A year of that has been on nitrous too...lol.

I still havent found the exact car I want 02-04 GT manual with leather, but Im still looking.
In the mean time I have a very newbie question, I know the hood scoops are NOT functional on the GTs, only on the mach1's and cobras, my question is, Can I just take the mach 1 intake set-up and put it on the GT and basically have the same ram air flow effect or no? arent they basically the same engine?

Thanks....

I like the 2000-2004 range GTs. Like others have said try and get a bone stock, or close to it, GT. But if I found something with low miles I would look into getting that. Be patient with your search.

Oh and welcome to MF!
