I just bought my first performance car - an '89 Mustang GT Hatchback. This car has had some good work done on it previously, and has some good mods on it, without molesting the engine too much. Most notable is probably the Steeda suspension, Mac exhaust, and 5-lug swap, front & back. Complete list of known mods below the pics.

  • Motor (302) & Trans (t-5) from '91 LX
  • BBK 70mm throttle body & EGR spacer
  • Ford Racing roller rockers
  • 94-04 Cobra brake kit
  • 2003 anniversary ed. red calipers
  • 94 stock GT rear axle shafts
  • 98 Cobra wheels
  • UPR Chromoly rear upper & lower control arms
  • Ford Racing aluminum drive shaft
  • Ford Racing adj. clutch cable
  • Ford Racing clutch quadrant
  • Steeda aluminum caster camber plates
  • Steeda bump steer kit
  • Screamin' Demon ignition coil
  • Pro 5.0 short shifter
  • Summit Racing aluminum radiator
  • Steeda S.S. radiator hold down bracket
  • Mac 1 5/8" unequal length headers
  • Mac 3" prochamber
  • Mac 3" cat back exhaust

I'm going to put some high-flow cats on this car to be street legal, but I'm not sure which brand to go with... any suggestions? I'm also considering changing out the 3" H-pipe for a 2.5" H-pipe that came with the car. I love the way the car sounds now and don't want to quiet it down too much... thoughts?

i have a bassani cat and its real good quality. Pretty much a straight thru design. It doesnt hurt performance, but it does quiet down the exhaust a bit. I only put it on for emissions testing

Thanks... I took a look around for 3" bassani cats and could only find 2.5". Maybe I need to look harder, but I do like the sound of the metal substrate!

you could possibly do a magnaflow setup with single cats on each side, with an x pipe for smoother flow
