New Member, purchasing a Mustang soon
I'm new, but not. I've been lurking here for quite a while, reading things and keeping up on news. Recently graduated from college with a degree in psychology and decided to try and get an officer commission with the US Army. I qualified and passed all the tests (man do they put you through a lot of stuff if you had no ROTC background or anything).
Anyways, I made it, and my pay grade is such that I'll be able to afford my first new car upon finishing OCS, which will happen in about 5 months. I have a friend at the local Ford dealership who's going to hook me up with a 2010 or 2011 (depends on how long I wait to purchase, I really want that coyote!) for 6k off MSRP (I've got that in writing). I cross shopped the Genesis Coupe, Camaro (can't even find one of those to test drive, and everybody wants 5k+ over MSRP), 370z and RX-8....but I've been a Mustang fan since I purchased a pristine 1995 Cobra (in black) when I was 17. I had to sell it within a year because my insurance company decided that 17 year olds should not own Cobras and jacked my insurance up to $353 per month with a clean driving record, but the car left an impression...one which was quite a bit better than the '89 Iroc-z I'd owned previously.
Assuming the Coyote and 6 speed manual that will be going into the Mustang do not jack up the price an exorbitant amount, I'll be getting a 6MT GT Premium with the track pack. I figure with no other expenses and housing entirely paid for by Sam, I should easily be able to afford a vehicle in the 30-33k range, which the GT Premium fits in with my 6k offer from the dealer.
Now I just need to convince Ford to offer the damn thing in a nice shade of green!

Definitely. I figure I might as well buy one car that I really want and hold on to it forever, since every old guy I've ever talked to has a story about some great car he wishes he still had. So, get it now while I can afford to splurge. That way if I ever manage to fool some girl into thinking I'd make a good dad, it'll be paid off and I won't have to trade it for a minivan.
