Default no more mustang! 97 t-bird?

i sold my 05 gt, that i bought new, last march due to being out of work for four months. now, with my situation much improved and getting better(not good enough to but a 2011 gt! at least not yet!) i can buy a 97 t-bird with a 4.6 from my brother pretty cheap .the car has been babied as he drives slower than grandpa and hes had the car for 8 or 10 yrs. it has about 90k miles on it and its in really good shape. my question is, can i, without alot of money, make it run anything like my old gt? is 0 to 60 in the 5 second range possible? and when i say alot of money im sayin putting 2 to 3k into it after purchase price.what can/should i be looking to do? any thoughts/ ideas im listening! thanks in advance!

Welcome to MF! Love the body style on those T-Birds. Problem with those cars is that they weigh about 300 lbs more than your old Mustang. Also, the motor is an older 2V 4.6L engine and not the 3V like your 'Stang. It would cost some bucks to get it running fast. I suggest saving your money for another Mustang.

thanks for all the welcomes! if i get the 'bird(i really like the body style too) im gonna strip a bunch of stuff off and lose some of the extra weight.ill go to the gears first and also put in a limited slip and then some tires.i might even camo it! haha. i want it to be kind of a sleeper. ya know when ya surprise the hell out of someone by showin em your tailights!
