Just bought a 1989 LX 5.0 hatch...
So I just bought my first Mustang, an 89 LX 5.0 hatchback. I wanted a 2nd vehicle to keep the miles low on my Silverado, and something to slowly build. Searched a couple months, and wanted to find something fairly unmolested.
What I found/purchased: 1989 LX 5.0, 5 speed, kind of a Tomato Red exterior/same interior. The car has 174,XXX miles on it, and honestly runs great and strong! Doesn't smoke at all, and doesn't seem to leak any fluids. It has power windows, and they work great (just have to help guide the drivers side up, the final couple inches). The asking price was $2300, and I got it for $1500 cash...thought that was a pretty good deal for a good runner!?
Mods that were already on it: Ford 9 inch, and 3.55 gears (out of a 91 Explorer I believe he said), Tokico adjustable shocks, H-Pipe (and exhaust dumped after cats (sounds like a freakin race car when you get on it), H&R springs for a mild drop, and 16 inch polished replica Cobra wheels.
Pros: Runs great! Pretty clean interior/exterior with a few minor exceptions. Seems to be a great car!
Cons: Slight body damage to drivers side, and I'll upload more pics very soon (my dad does body work, it's nothing major, it just got lightly side-swiped), Heater Core needs replacing...it deosn't blow warm/hot air, and I've heard it's a cruddy job but no biggie, I have time.
New items previous owner installed: Radiator, alternator and belt, and a buch of sensors.
Well that pretty much sums it up! Any advice you can give me regarding pros/cons of these vehicles would be great! I've heard that the transmissions and engines in these cars are pretty tough, and with the mileage and how good it runs, I fully believe it! Thanks for reading this overly-long post, and I'm glad to be part of your forum!
Here it is, and this is the side that has slight body damage now...will add more pics soon:
