New to the group with a '66 Coupe
After many years of doing boat restorations, some with my son almost 15, it was time to get his street ride ready. We picked up a 66 coupe on Friday. The body is straight with very little rust, new interior, the original 289 (apart and in boxes) and a blown from a donor 289 in the car. Our plan is to completely strip the car, have it media blasted, then paint keeping in candy apple red and reassemble. We're looking to stiffen up the car so one of the many chassis kits will be installed. Convert the brakes to discs, rear is already disc. Rebuild the C4 tranny as well as the motor which we'll keep mild but go with a full roller upper. Figure it will take the year to get this done before he starts driving.
I know chevy big blocks inside and out, built several over the years for the boats. My son is into motors as well so he's going to be the one turning the wrenches. Any metal work that needs to be done is going to be new to us since we've only worked with epoxy, glass and carbon fiber. Paint isn't a problem and I have access to a booth so we should see a good result.
Began looking through the site, like many of the boat sites I frequent lots of knowledge from people who have already done what we're about to do. Can't wait to learn so much more, still trying to figure out why the distributor is on the wrong side of the motor
