Hello there, my intro is going to be long, I know it, but I need some help in a way as I get done posting. will also post my car pics soon.
I'm very serious about this introduction. My name is Nelson and I attend csusb. I'll be 21 this june. I work graveyard loading trailers and so far have become fascinated with fox styled mustangs only. I had a 91 firebird v6( blew heads due to radiator leak), 93 blazer (sold because I just needed transportation), and now I have a 97 mitsubishi eclipse ( always loved the style and I just wanted this car for the fuel economy because I drive a lot(12k miles this nov. of 2009), and recently purchased a 1986 Mustang Gt (automatic) from my friend. but my girlfriends uses it to go to work .
Short story, my bro has 2 corvettes, a 1988 383 stroker and a 2002 coupe. I rode in them all and love the push but one day my cousin took me for a spin on his 1992 Mustang Cobra. And I have to admit, it was very fun and it made me look into fox style mustangs until I bought mine a month ago. Ever since I bought the mustang, it's pretty fun trash talking my brother about vettes vs stangs.
I have never worked much on cars. I helped reconstruct my brothers corvetter engine, but he did all the planning. But now, I spent countless hours looking into mustangs and how to upgrade and work on them.
My goals are to own a 1987-1988 mustang due to the front lights and the design overall. To have it be blue with white stripes. I have a 1986 gt and it's red,(looks pinkish) with ghost stripes(might stay with this one instead). I want to upgrade my car to run around the 300hp range and I'm not worried about tickets if the cars becomes modified even more.
--Main things that I love about cars, since going to car shows is loudness and power. By power I mean torque and burning out. I'm not much of a fan about getting fast top speed, I just want to feel that push when taking off.
--I want that gratification that comes with working on my own thing and my pride due to working on my car.
What do I want to do with my mustang(paraphrased)? To BE LOUD, LOOK NICE, HAVE tons of TORQUE, AND BASICALLY BE MY WEEKEND-Warrior CAR.
I know that I have to work on the suspension and the brake system, ect. but my main goal in the mustang itself it to BUILD ONE MEAN ENGINE. I want to work on my 302. And I want to see what I need to build my own engine. The budgets that I need to work on to reach certain specs. I want to learn and see what heads to buy and what cams and cranks to buy. What type of pistons, lifters, rollers, ect needed. And just how much money parts will cost. I have also looked into crate engines, found a 302/340 hp for 3500 on jegs but my brother told me that I can build one a lot cheaper or for the same price or build my own and get more performance for the price. But at the end, I want to work on my own engine.
I might just work on my 86 gt but I also want one that's stick and newer. So I hope that there's people that can help me with ideas on what to do. And to give me estimates and what it will take to get the job done.
I might just blue print my 86 engine or upgrade minimally, but I want to one day put the gt40 heads, or hooker heads, or the trick heads on my project mustang. I need the people here to give me ideas and guide me. Everything will be aprecciated. For example, if I get certain heads, I just don't know what kind of cam I'll need. Maybe there's guides for rebuilding and modding my engine.
I seriously need someone to guide me. ty for reading this if anyone did. And comments will be appreciated.
