New Guy, Old Ride
Heya. My name's Joe, I found this board while looking for sources for 5.0 information.
My ride is "The Skunk," a 1978 Mustang II. The current engine is a 1991 5.0L H.O. with dual quads and a tunnel ram.
This car was built, not bought. When I first got this car it had no engine, no transmission, and it was white. I installed the engine and tranny, ported the heads, tuned the carbs, and did all the bodywork and paint including building the custom rear spoiler and hanging the exhausts. And yes, those are Corvette side pipes.
I've got a pretty good head for problem-solving and I'm good with Holleys. Doesn't look like many of you are running carbs but hey, who knows. Maybe someone could use some old-school knowledge once in a while. I had to do some serious wrenching to make the 5.0 work in this car so I've learned a lot about these motors over the past few years.
There are some sweet rides on this board! I love the 5.0's.
I'll be poking around in the tech section. PM me or add to this thread if you have any questions. I have a Cardomain page at www.cardomain.com/ride/803178 . Cheers!

Welcome Joe to MF, from beautiful British Columbia, Canada!
Cool, a 'for-real wrencher'...great lookin,' and a fast-lookin' little ride.
I read a ton of the stuff you've done to this little 'engine-with-a-body,'
but I didn't see a quarter-mile time. Have you raced her, yet?
It looks awesome! Nice to see someone puttin' the quick into one of
these forgotten-pony bodies...well done, bud!
Hope you find a home here on MF...lots of nice folks on here

I have not yet taken her to the track. That's my plan for this spring, as soon as the street legals open up at Bremerton -- in fact, I just bought a helmet. We Desktop Dyno'd this most recent engine build and it came out to 389hp@6300. The car weighs 2700 lbs. so if I catch a good light she oughta move okay.
The rear end is a 3.50 limited-slip (8") so that'll hold her back a bit. The tranny is a C4 with a B&M shift kit; not ideal for the track but bomb-proof. It was a budget build.
Thanks!

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words.
Here are a few more pics.
The side of the Tower o' Induction. I built the throttle linkage with bar stock, a 10" 3/8 bolt, and a CNC.
The plumbing for the side pipes. Flex pipe run back from the collectors, then forward again to a hard 90 into each pipe. All the parts were off-the-shelf. Except, of course, the side pipes. I found them at a swap meet for $50.
And the rear spoiler. This started life as an '88 LX spoiler. I channeled it about 7" to make it fit (it was times like this that I gained an appreciation for how small the MII really is), then glassed it back together. The rear brakelight cutout ended up a triangle about 2" on a side so I affixed the II logo in the center. Here's a profile shot.
