new user with a capri!
Hello world, my name is matt, i'm a ()24yo colorado native, and here is my (capri's) story.
I have an 84 mercury capri. first got her when i was 17. she was sitting in the row for the crusher with a bad 3.8 (it didn't even have the freeze plugs in the back of the heads). did some trading to get her saved, but with the exception of a short lived 302 that smoked really bad (really bad) it wasn't until i was done with college (auto tech) that i finally got her on the road with the 5.0/aod out of a 91 crown vic with just the weiand intake off the failed 302 as the only aftermarket piece. eventually she got an eldy carb, headers, ignition work and some tires/wheels. 5.0 suspension, boxed control arms, and a 3.73 geared 8.8. then the aod fried and she sat for about 5 month's before i finally decided that it would be better to run an automatic than to hold out for a good deal on a 5 speed. so in went a c4, 75 miles later the hood came open and took out the hood, windshield and bent the cowling. within a week it was fixed and halfway into a 200 mile trip she got hot (pretty sure it was a headgasket failure) and completely fried that little 5.0 RIP... that was about 2 years ago
anyways, shortly after the national guard happened, and here i sit in Afghanistan, ordering parts for the 89 5.0 my brother in law is prepping for a build-a-thon when i take my r&r. here is what she is getting:
-89 5.0, just .030 over with probe forged slugs
-edelbrock performer rpm heads
-NOS X303 (have plans for different cam in future, but got this one cheap off a friend cause he ended up not using it)
-same weiand stealth (will be getting megasquirted after i get home for good)
-same eldy 600
-1 5/8 equal length long tube headers
-doug nash 4+1
-centerforce clutch
-blowproof bellhousing (and all the conversion stuff like pedals and cable)
-MM full-length subframe connectors
-MK VII disc brakes(F&R as required. like the x cam, not ideal, but worth the price)
there is probably stuff that I forgot, but i can get to those later.
like i said earlier, i have an associates in auto tech while working as a welder, i worked (of all places) at a GM/Chrysler dealer for 2 years, and when the recession hit I started driving truck. I work on electronics in the military. after I get back home i have plans for a mechanical engineering degree at CSU. I love theory and trying new stuff. hope to work development for the aftermarket someday.
I am also a member on some other forums, the big one is FTE(ford-trucks.com) so I know you all love pictures so here is one of how i found her, and right before the c4 got installed.
I also own:
-1961 falcon (been in the family since 68)
-1984 bronco, got when i was 16 and dropped in a new engine, traded for my highboy and then traded a ranger to get back (complete with trashed front clip and blown engine). its getting build for overlanding. i hope to drive it to tierra del fuego someday. almost back on the road with a megasquirted 300 inline, np 435 w/dual-range aux trans, 3.55's, 33x10.50's, and a modified ttb suspension
-1973 f250 4x4, got about 3 months before the capri. its the truck that me and my buddy had all our high school adventures in.
-88 f150 4x4, ever hear chris ledoux's song rodeo rose? its about this truck
-84 honda V65 sabre- technology nightmare, but it sure is fast.

thanks guys, i'm looking forward to being part of the community.
also i remembered that I also have a set of Recaro buckets that i pulled out of a turbo coupe, and a mega-jolt controller, it will just have a stub of a distributor and I plan on mounting the DIS coil packs in front of each cylinder head for a clean look.
