Past mustangs and hunt for a new one (with pics!)
This post may be long and will have some pictures, prepare to be bored. Growing up I always wanted a mustang. When I turned 16 in the mid 90s I was lucky enough to get a white 1989 LX 4 cylinder mustang. I drove that wonderful ride from 70k to 185k miles, wrecked it a ton of times and it never let me down. All that time what I really wanted was a 5.0.
After college I hunted for along time and finally found her. 1993, 78k original miles, perfect inside and out and all stock. I paid $7800 for it. Throughout the years I added 373 gears, A-Trim Vortec super charger and a short shifter. I also added the whale tale and yellow stripes. She would do 8.6 on th 1/8 mile with my crappy driving. After years of loving her some grandma came out of a side street so fast and smashed her to bits. As a bonus the sweet Ford airbag deployed after the wreck was over...good job Ford.
After that I was so bummed that I didn't get another mustang for years. Eventually I decided it was mustang time again. This time I picked up a 1988 GT with T-Tops. I paid $3000 and it was in pretty crappy condition. Kept it a few months and sold it for $4000. It was not "the perfect old mustang" that I used to have.
Next it was summer time and I picked up another 1988 but this one was convertible, LX 5.0. Red with red interior. Worst color combination in the world. This one was in unbelievable shape with 80k miles on it. It looked brand freaking new. I hated the convertible and the terrible color combination so I sold it for around $5000 to a Colonel in the military.
Next I found a good deal on a 1995 @ $6k with 58k miles on it. Now I'm a fox body man but I gave this one a shot because it still has the 5.0 that I like in there. Again, it was convertible with a terrible color combination: Teal with White leather. I kept this one for a little bit and hated the color but I didn't mind the convertible as much as the crotchety old tops on the fox body. The new body style wasn't for me so I sold it and still made some money.
That brings us up to now. I decided I wanted to try a classic so I picked up a 1969 Chevelle. I've owned it for abotu 1.5 years now and I still love it. However it does not fill the void in my soul that needs a old mustang.
I'm not getting rid of the Chevelle but it is time again to hunt for a great old mustang. I have some pretty tight specs: almost all stock, LX or GT, no convertible or notchback, low miles, perfect inside and out, no red exterior, no red or white interior.
I found this one on the craigslist and the guy told me it was perfect inside and out with 85k original miles. I drove today about an hour to look at it. The picture looks great. As soon as I walked up to it I could tell it had been wrecked and poorly fixed in the front, hail damage on the top and the interior was pretty bad. I didn't even bother starting it and in that condition I know it didn't have 85k miles on it.
Time to keep on looking and as I find others to look at I will report back! I hope someone finds this fun to read.
