1994 Mustang Cobra SVT

I is just purchased a 94 Cobra 383 Stroker engine and all of the good suspension. The car is very fast but it now falls on it's face with a small amount of back fire. I have replaced the fuel filter and cleaned all of the air flow intake. My question is could have I gotten some bad gas to cause this. The guy I bought the car from said to only use Shell 91 octane. My son filled it up at Loaf n jug with premium. Pics to follow.
