New member.
Not new to Mustangs as I have owned a 1971 Grande 302 2V with a 3 speed manual since 1980. The car hasn't run in years so this year it is time to make some decisions of what to do.
Basically, chassis is rough, body is all there but has loads of rust, engine is there as well as the transmission but it gave it's all a long time ago.
Reasons to get into a total redo: it was my first car and I actually like the car a lot. I drove it during my high school and college days and so there is an attachment to this inanimate object. The car is rough but I have seen worse brought back to life. It could be made safe and that is a primary concern because I would want it road safe and it would be driven.
Reasons not to get into this project: time and money. It's going to take a lot of both to do this.
Hmmmm, guess I should strip this thing down to the bare bones and see what I want to do.

I was tired last night while doing my original post so here is some information I left out.
First, my father bought this Mustang new in 1971. A couple years before that he had sold his 1965 Mustang, had an opportunity to buy it back, and then the person who did buy that car wrapped it around an electric pole.
So the Grande has been in the family ever since it was driven from the dealer lot. It never was the perfect car but I always liked it and so it's still around.
With few exceptions the car is original. The exceptions being things like paint, steering wheel, metal replaced after a couple accidents, the front grill an NOS I picked up several years before the car quit running.
I have the window sticker and all the original paperwork on this car so I know what colors and such it had new. Realistically it will probably never be worth in value what I pay out to restore the car and I am not worried about that. I just think it would be fun to have my first daily driver to run around in some times.
So now I am going to think about it, work on a budget (well a couple with options), and then make a decision. Making up my mind to do could take a while. I am not the type that rushes into things like this.

My parents bought a brand new light blue 1971 Mustang Grande when I was much younger. They bought it since they liked my 67 Mustang Hardtop. I really loved both of those cars. I miss them both now. Anyway welcome aboard.

Well I made up my mind that I'm going to restore or should I say resto-mod the Mustang. I am still getting the work area ready. Basically I have to clear out half my garage so I have a place to store and work on the car. I am thinking it will take at least two years and probably closer to four to finish. That is due to budget constraints and just having the time to work on the car and find parts.
So for the time being it is hurry up and wait. The garage probably won't be ready until next spring or summer. So I am working on temporary storage. Then next spring have a shed built to hold some stuff that is in the way, move the car into the garage, and let the fun begin.
