Default 2000 mustang gt problem

I don't know exactly what it is I think it's my tranny but not sure exactly it automatic. When I start the car & put it on either reverse or drive it takes a while for it to grab it. It just reves like it's on neutral for a second or two & then it goes. Or when I'm driving it feels like it switches into neutral by itself I'll push on the gas & it reves for a sec or 2 & then keeps going. Please help

First thing I would do is check the fluid level.

If that is good I would drain the fluid, pull the pan and install a new filter , replace pan and fill.

+1 ^^^

That's how a automatic tranny acts when it's low on fluid. Also check the color and smell. It should be a red and not much of an odor. If it's a reddish/brown and smells burnt, I'd have the whole tranny flushed along with the filter change as dawson suggested.

And welcome to the forum
