Default EcoBoost HP

I posted in an earlier thread that I recently purchased a 2015 EcoBoost premium. I must say, I am very surprised with the amount of pound-foot torque that this engine puts out. I am also surprised with the amount of HP it has at 310. My V8 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab (5.3L) only put out 315. Don't get me wrong, the engine start-up and performance on Ford's new GT model is on another planet, but to get over 30 mpg highway with an engine that puts out these types of numbers is amazing!

Imho Ford is really late to the market with this technology. I have a 2009 2.0 GXP that has 290 HP and direct injection. GM released this engine in 2007 (8 years ago!) into the Solstice, Sky and the Cobalt. There are plenty of these engines that have 400 HP with only an aftermarket intercooler and a tune. I think the 2.4 Mustang Turbo should have 350 HP if it even matched this 8 yr old technology. I think Ford does not want to confuse their Mustang buyers with the choice of a 4 cylinder that can keep up with the 5.0.

The four bangers today are pretty cool. Slap a tune on your Ecoboost and gain another 30HP and 50FT pounds of torque. I owned a SRT-4 for years that was making around 500HP so it's easy to pull power out of a turbo car. Look out when someone make a big turbo kit for the EB.
