My 1978 302 shakes
I am restoring a 66 Ranchero that has had a 1978 302 installed prior to my ownership. The car has a C4 trany. I have no history on this motor. My problem is it shakes mildly at idle. It seems like a balance problem. Here is what I do know. All fuel system issues are OK. I have installed Pertroix ignition with new coil. All voltage's, plugs, wires, and timing are OK. All vacuums are OK. I have had the heads rebuilt. I have replaced the front balancer and flex plate with 28 oz weights. The motor runs smooth with no misses or acceleration hesitation. The motor seems to run clean (no smoke) and quiet. Also when I pulled the trany to replace the flex plate I changed fluid and filer and shift linkage seals. The pan and oil were extremely clean and I think it is possible the the trany may have had some work done. The torque converter may be the original. Hard to tell.
Question- Could the torque converter be out of balance or have I completely missed something without tearing the motor apart.
Anyone have any suggestions?
