Having not had a 5.0 for a number of years, and the kids being out of the house I figured this would be the year for a new one.

Having just done a build & price through the website, I find that I can't order the Performance Pack with an automatic.

I've had my fill of sticks many years ago. Having been a drag racer off-and-on since 1969, I can appreciate a good automatic trans.

I'm considering finding the number of a product planner or someone connected to the current 5.0 to give them an opinion they might not have heard.

I'm not far out of Detroit, and worked as a contractor for Ford when I worked as a computer programmer.

Anyone else want to rant?

Maybe Roush or Steeda offer their own version of a mild performance pack for an auto that may interest you? Or even Ford Racing?

Well I don't know much about the new platform but from the research I have done on them it may have something to do with the performance pack and track apps. The auto they use is the same unit they use in the trucks and SUVs. It's not exactly performance minded. They may have had trouble designing it to work reliably with the updated power/ track apps.

I have a 2016 GT with auto and it is awesome, especially in track mode. I installed the Ford Racing Street package which is the exact same package as the performance package with the standard transmission as far as the suspension goes. The standard brakes are just fine unless you are a serious track rat. I also installed the Ford Racing (Borla) cat-back street exhaust which is really loud outside the car a just right inside. I love the package.

Take a read through this. From my understanding the interceptor version was similar to the package you are looking for. They cooked the tranny in 3 minutes. I'd bet this is why your having trouble finding one. Ford doesn't want all the warranty claims.

Did that car not have a trans cooler? Because I thought the crown vic PI's had a heavy duty transmission with a trans cooler so they wouldn't burn up in a hot chase.

Not sure I didn't see any mention of it. I would think they thought of that though.
