Improvements are made every year. New car will ride better, interior will be quieter, better seats, better gas mileage. Better braking. The list is endless.
There, I fixed it for you. I love my 2012 V6, but there are a lot of reasons that the beefed up version is half price of the newer V8. My recommendation: If you want the power of a V8, get a V8. Turning a 3.7 into a V8 means you have to beef up the engine-not just add FI, beef up the trans, drive shaft, rear end, brakes, cooling, etc. Then you have a car that could be difficult to find a shop that can maintain it, and difficult to sell ( your buddy is just finding this out).
You reminded me. There was an issue with the 2011 that had to do with the valve train now that I had forgotten about. The 3.7 uses a cup on top of the valve and the cam directly operates the valve (can't recall what is called now, common for motorcycles though) and there were issues with the 2011 with noise and failure. Ford had to rework several of the 2011 engines as a result.
If you want to save money compared to the '16 track pack there's other options besides a supercharged v6. Look for a gt that's a year or 2 old over a modded 6 imo.
Thanks for all the advice and opinions. I've been going back and forth weighing all the pro's and cons. I think i might wait until the 2017's are out and get one in Grabber Blue.
17's are out, at least here in Cincy. Checked them out at Kings ford this weekend. Look like the 16's. Are there any differences between the 16's and 17's?
