Default Buying advice - '05-'09 - what year/models best?

Hello all -

I'm wanting to finally buy a Mustang and I really like the 2005-2009 body style the best, but may also consider the 2010 and up ones.

I'm looking for style and drivability over performance. I'm hoping to take my time and find a stock "cream-puff" with no accidents and low mileage. I most definitely want a manual transmission and probably a V6. I also really like the look of the grill and striping on what I think is the "pony package". I also really like the Bullitt style wheels.

Any advice would be welcome as to what year models to concentrate on or which to avoid. Like I said, I prefer the styling of the pre-2010 models, but are there any compelling reasons that I should rather look at the 2010+ ones?

Thanks for any input.

Brian

Hey Brian,

I was in a similar position as you a year ago, thinking about a 2005-2009 Mustang.(I love the S197 body style the best as well) Shoot for a 07-09 because you will see slight improvements over the first 2 years of the new body style. Personally, I went with a 2007 GT and still really enjoy the car.

This car is not very fast though so you have to really love the looks, especially the V6. The power will leave you wishing you would have saved up a little more for the 5.0. But if your focus is not hp numbers I believe you will enjoy the heck out of this pony, especially after you upgrade suspension components.

If I were you I would be looking 07-09 pony package V6 with low mileage you can get for a steal! at least out here in Cali lol

Thanks for the reply, Marcus. I got similar advice from someone else, although he said to concentrate on the '08-'09 range. And, yeah, power is not my focus (I've kind of outgrown that). So, I'm going to concentrate on either the V6 Pony Package or a GT. I'm planning to be patient and find a low mileage, one-owner, meticulously kept one.

Thanks again!

The newer the better is always my philosophy.

I own a 2005 and a 2014 and the 2014 is a much better car.

The newer ones have much more sound insulation, more pickup, better braking, etc...

I've been thinking about selling my 07 GT to bounce up to a coyote. Or i could throw tons of money into the 3 valve, i do love the body style but idk.

Try to spring for a newer year of any bodystyle vehicle ..so 08-09. Hopefully would have some of the kinks worked out from the new model year by then.
