The quick bit I can find based on a (long since wiped) VIN decoder page I got saved locally:

Date - Top left - 10/95. So the car was made in october 1995

GVWR - Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. This is the maximum allowable weight of the fully loaded vehicle, including liquids, passengers, cargo, and the tongue weight of any towed vehicle.

Front GAWR - Front Gross Axle Weight Ratio. This is the maximum allowable weight the front axle is designed to carry including the weight of the axle assembly itself. GAWR is established by considering the rating of each of its components (tires, wheels, springs, axle), and rating the axle on its weakest link. The GAWR assumes that the load is equally dispersed on either side.

Rear GAWR - Rear Gross Axle Weight Ratio. The maximum allowable weight the rear axle is designed to carry including the weight of the axle assembly itself. GAWR is established by considering the rating of each of its components (tires, wheels, springs, axle), and rating the axle on its weakest link. The GAWR assumes that the load is equally dispersed on either side.

VIN - 1FALP42X1TF118480

1FA = Ford USA Passenger Car
L = Active safety belts all positions, first generation air bags
P42 = Two-door coupe, GT
X = 4.6L, EFI (SOHC), eight cylinder
1 = VIN Check digit
T = Model year 1996
F = Assembly Plant Identifier - Dearborn, Michigan (USA)
118480 = Production Sequence Number - Starts with 100001 at every model year

Exterior paint code ZR = Crystal/Ultra White

DSO = Standing for the District Sales Office. The DSO identifies the area of the country the car was to be shipped to. - 44 in your case, which means the Pittsburgh Region

Body = Body stule = GT2

BRK = 4 - which I don't exactly know. These are the codes I do have:

* 2 Four-wheel disc with anti-lock brake system (SRS)
* 3 Traction control
* 5 Four-wheel disc with anti-lock brake system (ABS) and traction control.

MLDG = Molding and color. Sheet I have doesn't further elaborate on that.

INT Trim = Internatl Trim. The 4 indicates the type of seat, whereas the second identifies the color.

4J doesn't show up on my sheet tho:

* 2 Medium Graphite
* 9 Rhodes Cloth (individual)
* D Leather/Leather (sport)
* H Medium Parchment
* T Leather/Vinyl (individual)
* U Shadow/Twill Cloth (individual)
* W Midnight Black

* 8 Mach 460 premium AM/FM stereo with cassette, clock and sub-woofer sound system
* 9 Mach 460 premium AM/FM stereo with compact disc, clock and sub-woofer sound system

S = Sunroof

AX = Rear axle ratio and type. Z indicates 3.08L (Limited Slip Differential)

TR = Transmission. the first character indicates transmission type, characters 2-5 indicate spring type, Front/Rear.

U = Four-speed automatic (4R70W)

The question still remains... is that the gear that is still in there? Because the doortag tells you how it was delivered from factory. Mods by previous owners aren't factored in.

If you want to double check:

4J interior trim is black leather for GTs
(6J is cloth, so, either v6 or GT)...

BRK= brakes;
but, the codes 4, but they never say (?),
same as the radio...
MLDG is the interior mold colour for your trim;
