Default 1969 Mach 1 Boss 429

hello everyone!

I am currently new to this site and I habe come here to hopefully receive some insight on a 1969 Mach 1 Mustang Boss 429. I inherited it after my father’s passing about 5 years ago in 2013. The car has been sitting in a garage for quite some time and the car needs a second chance at life. However as its been sitting in a family garage for so long surrounded by a whole ton of other junk i’ve recently been pressured to either relocate my car or to sell it. To the family it’s just another junk car sitting and rotting away and i’ve been threatned to have it towed away on me. I know this car was my father’s prized possession. I also know what the value and how classic this car is and am aware they aren’t easy to come by . In other words I’m even lucky to have it in my possession. My dream would be to restore it and get it on the road one day in my father’s honor. However its financially restraining to me at the moment and I just graduated from the University of Illinois. I wanted to post some pictures here to maybe get some advice from the pros. Granted the car is a mess but I was wondering is there a aecond chance of life whatsoever based off these photos ? The engine from what i’m aware of is intact but taken apart only because my car was one who loved to take things apart and put things back together — it was his initial plan to restore it all on his own. So I personally dont know it’s running status engine wise. Would it be a smart idea to either sell or keep it realistically? I do apologize for anything vague in this thread but it is my first post and I just wanted to get a gist of how these forums work so if anyone has any input or any further questions i’d be more than happy to elaborate!

thank you ,

-Cristina

Welcome to the site. The car does look as if it could be restored, but you’re looking at six figures to do it correctly at this point. If it is an original Boss 429, it would be worth it, assuming you have in excess of $100K lying around. I don’t know what it would be worth as-is, but if you can document that it is an original Boss 429, it’s current value might surprise you.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Regular 429 valves:
Boss 429 valves:
Engine shown in images is neither a 429, nor Boss 429. 429 engines had canted valves, not straight in-line as pic shows.

—- well thank you for noting that. I was probably misinformed about the type of engine it has then. I appreciate your feedback! I personally wouldnt know by looking at it myself lol ! Any thoughts as to what it could be ... maybe ??

Looks like it could be a 351W, but I'll go back after posting here and try to look closer. The Cleveland engine, similar, was introduced in 1969, I think, but they, too, had canted valves:
Valves staggered, not in line, and angularly askew to one another. imp

Could it be a 428 Cobra Jet Mach 1? Not nearly as valuable as the Big Boss, but still a valuable car.

battery cable ends in the engine bay definitely rule out the Boss 429, BTW.

keep submitting... put a puppy in the video too...make them go "awwww" And you might clear away the debris from it, so you can get a good shot of all the sides...
I'm not sure how FAR in advance they film to when they air it.
Seems like a nice crew of people.

Looks like a great project car...good luck!!

That's what I was thinking as well since the Mach 1 came with the 428 super cobra jet. The Mach 1 was not a "Boss", the Boss was a different series so there is no such thing as a "Mach 1 Boss 429". It is likely that over the years the designation got a little 'mangled' by memories.
