Default a few questions. a real n

Thank the internet gods for forums.

Me and my wife are in our late 20's. W ehave no kids and have just moved from Boston to Orlando, fl. So we figure we might as well buy a sporty car now before it's to late.

We have a local used dealer down here that is highly respected and has good warranties.

they have a 2000 convertible gt, black, with almost all options. it has 26000 florida miles.

What we can't figure out is the car has a Roll bar? Our friend has the same year gt but no rollbar. So could it be the last owner installed it?

Also we noticed in order to close the convertible you have to use the parking brake. which is a pain in the *** in my opinion. is there a way around it?

it's a beautiful looking car inside and out. nice rims and interior. are 2000 gt's any good stock? W e won't be modding it out. it actually looks sweet the way it is.

Basically would just like to know anything we can on this year. especially the roll bar thing. and what would be the things you would reccommend upgrading asap that WON'T cost me and arm and leg.

Any help would be appreciated. thanks

PS we can get the car for 15,500

oh and if it were a cobra it would say it on the car right?

I have never owned a convertable so I have no idea about roll bars but if it was a Cobra the rear bumper says Cobra and you will have the cobra emblems near the front fenders instead of the GT or pony symbols.

Not sure about the roll bar. Pretty sure there wasn't a Cobra Convertiblefor 2000 model year. That asside according to Kelly Blue Book:</P>

I had to guess your zip (32801) and put several options. Retail is what a dealer would expect toASK for a car. $14,600 is what you'd expect to buy it from an individual for (in excellent condition) So $15,500 is actually not a bad price.</P>

The parking brake thing isn't too annoying once you get used to it. Don't know of a way to bypass it and not sure I'd want to.</P>

The roll bar was added. Extra saftey with a convertable, plus people like the looks when the top is down. You can get them with lights and the third brake light in them.
The e brake thing to do the top is so your not able to drive while doing the top. I think it's a good thing, because it would be like a parachute, lol. Sounds like a good deal, I'd buy it.<img border="0" src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0"> <edited><editID>HotRods_n_Booze</editID><editDate>38029.4805787037</editDate></edited>

great guys. thanks alot. you have really made us want it now. lol.</P>

time to scrunch numbers. </P>

the thing that is really throwing us off is they want $3000 down and thats for them to register it and 7% florida taxes. it's a lil' hefty. we have good credit and payments are low but still $3000 is a s**t load, lol.</P>

So i think what it was is this guy modded a few things like the rollbar because we also noticed other "look at me" mods. like the lights and really nice pinstriping.</P>

we want it hopefully will get it. believe it or not it's either this or a 99' bmw 528 i. for 18,000. She loves stangs and I do too. But have always dreamed of a beemer as well.</P>

again thanks. </P>

oh and Booze, you gotta admit doing 120 down the highway and putting the top up would be something crazy to see. providing you're wearing your seatblet and have money to burn, lol. <IMG src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0"></P>

The beamer should be a second car because they're nice too, but no comparison to a Mustang.

AS FAR AS SMOOTH GOES...</P>

It was flat top not a traditional round roll bar. it was hard as a rock solid and was black chrome. make the car look sweet with the top down.</P>

Well an auto is a little slower but that doesn't sound like it will matter to you as you're not looking to race it seems. I find the stick is way funner and wouldn't trade it for anything.</P>

But how does your wife feel about a 5spd? Can she currently drive stick? If not is she willing to learn? All my vehicles are std but my wife doesn't like the clutch in the stang, she says its hard to operate, so she never drives the car and even gave me the key back (sweet). I see this as a good thing but it sounds like you and your wife both wish to enjoy the car.</P>

Test drive both if possible.</P>
