As the article points out though that loan was not a bail out loan. All the car manufacturers (even Fisker) were offered a loan to re-tool factories to produce more fuel efficient cars.

Mullaley would have been a fool not to accept the government loan to re-tool factories. But it wasn't a bail out loan like GM and Chrysler received.

Ford could have rejected that loan and continued on without re-tooling the factories.

And GM and Chrysler got that same loan, in addition to the bail out. As did Toyota even.
