Hello,

I just signed the petition, “Chrysler Group Customer Care: Dodge: Recall the motors with the dropping valve seat issues.” I think this is important. Will you sign it too?

That's what happens when you don't build them like you used to.
Those Hemi engines are NOT the same from the past. It's not
just the Hemi motors either.

They used powder metal technology (PM) valve seats with an approximate depth of
.286″ (7.264 MM). Inadequate heat transfer may have a part in these seats coming
out of the counter-bore; they expand thus the valve seat drops, which leads to contact
with the valve & pistons. When these seats shatter, many pieces result. Those pieces
end up in the cylinder, and most likely scores the walls and causes other damage; to
getting stuck in the head above the valve.

These engines run at a higher than normal combustion-chamber temperatures because of
an engineering flaw in the piston ring landings. EGR can't be adjusted enough to counter
that, and even if it could, would have a bigger impact on power and torque. To make matters
worse, the heads have smaller drain back holes in them so it's like a frying pan. This causes
oil to burn off faster causing sludge and build up that can lead to oil starvation.

One aftermarket PM valve seat manufacturer is now using different seat materials;
processes and designs that have resulted in improved seat insert retention in the cylinder head.
An additional tempering process was implemented, to eliminate the embrittleness commonly
found in PM seats. They also have additional seat depth and a reduced leading edge chamfer.
That provides an increased seat to cylinder head contact area for better heat transfer.

Chrysler doesn’t want to admit (neither does Ford) they even have this issue. You won't find any TSB’s
either, for those suspect engines from Chrysler or Ford.

This failure has happened as soon as 100 miles, to 156,000...

Valve springs are breaking too.

Chrysler's 318 was a work-horse, and they should have built on that. That thing
could go 300,000+ miles, but that's probably why all these companies drop their
immortal engines for ones that they know will fail. I know a guy who had two
318s in his house boat, and never had any problems with them.
