Default Going to try Amsoil. A few questions

Ok I need an oil change in 1,000 miles and I think I might give amsoil a shot since I was getting charged like $50 at valvoline and I can do it for almost the same at home and use amsoil. My car has 98,000 miles, and runs a high mileage synthetic blend, would it be okay to switch to amsoil now? Also I see people saying running a different weight in the winter is better, is it okay to still run 5w-20 in the winter because I would be getting the oil and filter below I believe.

http://www.amsoil.com/catalog.aspx?code=XLMQT-EA http://www.amsoil.com/catalog.aspx?code=EAO34-EA

Is this the correct oil/filter? Just checking.

Here is the look up for your car...

the filter is the eao 34, and the oil you have picked is the xl series oil that will work fine.

but I run their best oil ( the 0w30 sso) in my 2000 v6 mustang, I switched to that oil when the car had 130,000 +

Is it okay to run 0w-30 in the winter? or just year round? If it is I'll buy the better oil.

in regards to you asking about running the oil in the winter, the 5-30 & 0-30 would be what you hear as recommended in winter due to the viscocity of them.

They are slightly more thin so it wont be like syrup when the car has been sitting in sub freezing temps.

i switched from a normal dino oil to a blend at like 85k and then to a full syn around 100k?

only issue i see is i get an extra drip spot on the cement but even at that i never have to add any oil over 6k miles.

Yeah thats another thing. I just kindof have a mental block about letting the oil changes for 6k miles. But I feel like it would be a waste of money to switch at 3 or 4k.

Good stuff but not capable of the 10-15k mile intervals of their top-line sig series 0w30. More like 5-7k. Ive seen many UOI's of the XL series matching up well with german castrol (which is outstanding lubricant in its own right) at 3-6k intervals.

I'm going with the 0w-30. Will still probably change it every 6-7,000 miles though.

I go 8-10k on the 0w30 with the Ea011 filters and feel pretty good about it.
