First time changing Mach 1's oil and oil filter myself. Lots of Questions.
I've had my 04 Mach 1 for about a month now and wanted to change the oil myself. Im unsure of what type of oil to use and what type of oil filter to use. I want to use the best stuff for my car to make her last longer. any help is appreciated.
I've heard that 5w-20 is the weight, but which synthetic oil is better? Mobil 1, Motorcraft, Quaker state, Pennzoil? And what oil filter is the best to be used. |

I would recommend the SSO 0W-30 (better than the 0W-20 and 5W-20 - and only slightly thicker) and EaO11 oil filter. Engine Oil Grade 1......API* 100% Synthetic 0W-20 Motor Oil (ASMQT) XL 5W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil (XLMQT) Signature Series 0W-30 100% Synthetic Motor Oil (SSOQT) All TEMPS......5W-20 Those are what AMSOIL recommends, but the SSO 0W-30 is their BEST oil, and what I personally use in my 4.6L You can even run their oil all year long with only one oil change up to 25,000 miles. |

If you are truly concerned to buy the best, look no further than AMSOIL.

+1 on the Amsoil. If that breaks your bank, as it does mine, go with whichever reputable pure synthetic is on sale and a motorcraft filter. I go with the 5w20 which ford says to use. And I'll apologize for the guys in the Mach section being terds. Welcome to the Mach family.

You cannot beat Motorcraft semi-synth (12.00 for 5 quarts a Wallyworld, you need 6 qts) and a Motorcraft filter

Although, for the money, its a damn good value for what you get. I'm not knocking it. Now, like most products, you get what you pay for. If you want the "balls best", Amsoil is the way to go. As far as going with "cheaper synthetics", understand that you are NOY buying a synthetic oil. It has been discussed to no end on every car forum. Pennzoil, Quaker State, Valvoline, Castrol (the instigator of all this fake stuff), etc, are regular oils further formulated to mimic a synthetic in its new condition. As these fakes get used, they break down and lose all their "synthetic" attributes the same way as non-synthetic-labeled dino oils. For information on this extra refining process, you can wiki "hydrocracking". It's a process used for many products, including motor oils. |
