You definitley heard wrong.
I always use Mobil 1 10W30 and a Motorcraft oil filter every oil change.
I really like Mobil 1 my engine runs excellent using it.

The best is subjective, and has caused lots of debate. What can be stated safely is that a group IV base stock oil is superior to a group III. Anyone who objects to this either hasn't done the research or is in denial. Please note, I'm not narrowing this down to a specific brand. The major 3 oil formulations that are group IV base stocks and are easily found in the US is Royal Purple, Red Line, and AMSOIL. For those not in the know, Mobil 1 primarily uses group III base stocks since the mid 90's.

Anyone currently using a Mobil 1 API SM formulation in the 5W-20 weight is a fool and should be taken out back and beaten with a dipstick. Maybe we should feed them the excess iron PPM found in the oil analysis. If someone insists to use Mobil 1, please use their high mileage formulations that are API SL certified.

Last weekend was the first time I've put oil in my Mustang. (2600 miles) I originally bought 5W30 thinking that's what I needed (that's what the Tahoe takes) but then saw I needed 5W20. I found that 5W20 is not carried in grocery stores or quick shops. Luckily I found an auto parts store that had it.

To those who know Mustangs and oil, what is the best brand to buy? I can't remember what brand I bought, I think it was the only 5W20 they had.

I'd like to stock up on it as it's not very common.

There's a specialty store you may be able to find called WalMart.
They have Motorcraft Synth Blend 5w20 for pretty cheap, every day.
